US customs officials found 1,100 pounds (almost half a ton) of methamphetamine in a shipment of watermelons in California, Lenta reported, citing The New York Post.

The officers stopped a truck with a trailer at the entrance to the city of Otay Mesa. During the inspection of the car, among the boxes with fruit, dog handlers found 193 plastic bags with drugs.

According to rough estimates, the value of the confiscated substances is about $ 2.5 million.

The truck driver was arrested and chaged. The police took him to a correctional center in San Diego.
