YEREVAN. - To sign basic principles in Kazan it means to admit that Aliyev administration has been deceiving its people by war rhetoric, said political expert Karen Bekaryan.
Bekaryan, the Chairman of European Integration NGO, recalled remark of Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian that it is the forth meeting when Aliyev presents new proposals.
“Once the likelihood of breakthrough becomes more realistic Aliyev is filled with fear that he will be urged to return to the motherland and admit he had lied,” he said.
According to the expert, Turkey also encourages Azerbaijan to adopt tougher stance.
“The turning point must occur not at the negotiating table but underlie in the behavior of participants, in this case - Azerbaijan. For instance, if Azerbaijan stops making racist statements and gives way to building normal relations with neighbors,” Bekaryan added.
There is a wrong impression that Azerbaijani people are not ready for peace and compromise. It is Aliyev who is not ready. “Aliyev is the most interested party in maintaining the status quo,” he added.
