Armenian ex-president Robert Kocharyan said he should ask the people how it happened that the overwhelming majority were simply deceived and elected Armenian acting PM Nikol Pashinyan. 

"I probably asked myself a thousand times how it happened, because we are not such a naive people. How we deceived ourselves. I have no answer to this question. We can say that the people were dissatisfied with the previous authorities, all this is there, yes.

If there were no accumulated problems, such a mass would never have taken to the streets. But why this particular person was chosen is still a mystery to me, to which I have no answer. It's just that at the right moment, on this wave, on this tsunami, the person who took up the flag, became the standard-bearer, became a hero. This is probably from the sphere of social psychology. I have no doubt how many theses will be defended for the doctoral dissertation on why this happened," he said. 

Kocharyan also added that populism is a pain, which in the context of the decentralization of today's information field is becoming a very serious tool.
