The European Union and Western countries have shown that they are not reliable partners for Russia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a briefing. “There may be situations when unlawful decisions will be made from a completely empty place,” he said, TASS reported.

As the FM noted, Russia would like all the agreements concluded to be fulfilled, but there are many negative examples. 

“I am sure that our government, the Central Bank, the relevant financial authorities are preparing possible solutions if an attempt is made to undermine our ability to ensure free exchange within the multilateral trading system, within the framework of the World Trade Organization,” Lavrov said.

He added that recently, at a meeting of the Eurasian Union intergovernmental council, issues of a more dense use of national currencies in settlements were discussed. 

Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Russia calling for sanctions against Nord Stream 2, Rosatom, Russian oligarchs, as well as disconnecting Russia from the international payment system SWIFT.
