The defeat of Armenia in the war was also a severe blow to Russian influence in the region, the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan told RBK.
Answering the question about the attitude of Armenia towards Russia, the former president briefly noted that the elections will show everything.
"The overwhelming part of society continues to treat Russia as the main guarantor of security in this region, as a country that is the only one capable of resisting Turkish expansion in this region. Just look at the map."
"Everyone understands that some accents have changed, everyone understands that Turkey claims its increased capabilities, but nevertheless, Russia remains the only country capable of limiting this influence. It seems to me that the overwhelming part of society is still adamant about the perception of Russia," he said.
Talking about six prisoners captured by the Azerbaijani troops during the illegal invasion of the territory of Armenia and answering the question of what is happening, Robert Kocharyan said that there is lack of proper protection of the borders of the Republic of Armenia.
"The Armed Forces of Armenia are now so weak and the government does not pay enough attention to security issues," he noted.
