President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev is so disappointed at the results of Kazan summit that is ready to stop his mission as a mediator in resolution of the Karabakh conflict, Russian Kommersant newspaper writes referring to its sources.

“He intends to organize the next meeting of Mr. Aliyev and Sargsyan only on condition that the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents finally sign basic principles.

Although both Baku and Yerevan claim they are ready to continue talks, dialogue’s fate after Kazan failure remains questionable,” the newspaper writes.

The newspaper’s source, one of the diplomats participating in talks, stressed that the Kazan meeting revealed controversy over the issues which the mediators considered to have been resolved long ago.

“There are some technical and fundamental problems, such as determining of the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh. The problem is not controversy itself but the fact that the sides had changed positions several times,” the source said.

“Unless Azerbaijan and Armenia show willingness to resolve problems in the near future, we will assume that mediatory mission is over,” he warned.

According to him, Medvedev has presented the parties with an ultimatum: the next trilateral summit is possible only if prepared plan on Karabakh is signed.
