We’re certain that there are opportunities for the development of agriculture in Syunik Province, and the irrigation water issue can be solved through the construction of a reservoir. Second President Robert Kocharyan, the leader of the "Armenia" bloc that will run in the snap parliamentary elections on June 20, said this during Monday’s meeting in Meghri town.

Kocharyan also stated that the mining industry is the backbone of economy in the region and mentioned the need for diversification to a certain extent. He also noted the prospects for tourism in the region and the importance of full implementation of the North-South Road Corridor Program.

“The Foreign Economic Zone is on paper, but there is no action. We need to think about what we can do to make sure things move forward. I still don’t fully understand why it didn’t work out. We need to explore this issue more in depth,” Kocharyan said.
