Bloomberg agency photojournalist Diana Markosyan has been seized by Baku airport border guide.
Director of Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) Emin Huseynov quoted Markosyan as saying that her documents are accurate, they just wouldn’t let her pass because of Armenian surname, reports Turan.
She arrived to Baku on June 28 early morning and has been in transit zone by 15:00. Markosyan has dual citizenship- American and Russian. She flew to Baku with her Russian passport.
Azerbaijani MFA spokesman Elkhan Polukhov said that the journalist lacked accreditation.
According to him, earlier Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry received a request to accredit Bloomberg representative Michael Smith. After this request was granted, another letter was received informing that Smith will be accompanied by photographer Diana Kazaryan (in appeal to the Foreign Ministry photojournalists’ name has been indicated thus).
Supposedly Markosyan will be deported.
