At the invitation of President of Italy Sergio Mattarella, President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian and his wife, Noune Sarkissian arrived in Italy on a state visit a while ago, Armenian News-NEWS.am’s correspondent reports from Rome.

This is the first state visit of the President of Armenia to Italy in the 30-year history of the Republic of Armenia.

On October 6, Presidents Sarkissian and Mattarella are scheduled to hold personal talks at the presidential residence, after which the Armenian and Italian presidents will hold an enlarged meeting with the delegations and issue a statement for the presses.

During the visit, President Sarkissian is scheduled to meet with Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Italy Mario Draghi, as well as President of the Senate Maria Elisabetta Casellati, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Roberto Fico and the mayor of Rome.

Issues related to the deepening of bilateral ties and the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors, as well as regional issues and developments and other issues of mutual interests will be in focus.

President Sarkissian will also be hosted at the Levonian Armenian School in Rome where he will meet with members of the Armenian community.

The deepening of cooperation in the education and cultural sectors are also on President Sarkissian’s agenda. At La Sapienza University in Rome, President Sarkissian will attend the reopening of the Chair of Armenian Studies and deliver a lecture.
