STEPANAKERT. – Terroristic threats of Azerbaijan must raise concern not only in the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), its citizens, and the Armenian side in general, the president of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Bako Sahakyan told Radio Liberty, adding that those are terroristic threats which must bother the whole civilized world.
“In this context, I suppose, these threats are equally directed towards both the Armenian side and the international community. Every day Azeri authorities come up with threats followed by militaristic actions. We are worried about this, so must be the international community. Given this policy, we cannot exclude the possibility that Azerbaijan will turn its words into actions one day. Therefore we act in the light of these realities,” said Sahakyan.
NKR president stated that Artsakh is ready for the war.
“We do not accept any extraordinary postures. Being certain that the problem must be solved in a peaceful way, we, nevertheless, have to bear in mind the position and statements of our neighbor when planning our policies. We must ensure the safety of our country, so that our citizens could organize their lives in these conditions of relative peace.”
In response to a remark that expert circles are increasingly strengthening the foreseeable probability of new war, Bako Sahakyan said that the experts base their opinions on the policy pursued by Azerbaijan.
“When they say that if not today then tomorrow the problem will be solved by means of arms, these experts have the right to come to this conclusion. We carry out extremely serious work in order to avoid possible military actions. I believe that this conflict is not merely limited to interests of Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan. The civilized world today has its own requirements, especially for our region. I do not envisage our performance in the light of radical politics, on the contrary, we must do everything to reduce the tension and apply new instruments in order to sort out our relations," said he.
Karabakh president noted that Armenian leadership recurrently stated that these principles are the basis of negotiations.
“Therefore we welcome each proposal that could serve as a basis for negotiations. We believe that we cannot reject the present document, if it leaves room for negotiations. If the OSCE Minsk Group offers a document, it does not necessarily imply the consent of the parties. Armenian government recurrently stated that we are talking about the document that would serve as a basis for negotiations. In the event of adoption of a document that should provision Artsakh’s involvement in the process, we would welcome it. But a document does not imply signatures,” said the president.
