During today’s parliamentary session, deputy of the ruling Civil Contract Party of Armenia, Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly Andranik Kocharyan called on the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to issue a statement on the current situation on Armenia’s border.

“Armenia is one of the founding countries of the CSTO. Russia is Yerevan’s main ally with respect to the CSTO, and besides the CSTO, there are legal acts by which Russia can prevent tension in the territories of member states. There is still no statement or clear action plan. Nothing is mentioned about border monitoring, even though the plan for this was put up for consideration in the CSTO a few months ago. If such monitoring was conducted, Azerbaijan wouldn’t have had grounds to blame the Armed Forces of Armenia for everything,” Kocharyan said.

Moreover, he is certain that Armenia can overcome this stage of tension as well and through combined efforts. “The unity and support of the Armed Forces is something that depends on each of us. At the same time, let everyone realize that if we are in a situation where there are rules to follow, those rules need to be observed. We need to keep the region away from stronger turbulence,” Kocharyan stated.
