The Government of Armenia uses the names “Eyvazli” and “Chayzami” so that nobody has a reason to blame the Armenian side for being biased. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said in response to deputies’ questions during today’s question-and-answer session in parliament.

Pashinyan stated that the country’s authorities will be guided by Soviet maps [according to which the indicated sections of the road are not in the territory of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic] so long as the official border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not ultimately determined.

“We need to take something as a basis; otherwise, the Armenian side may be asked why the Armenian side announced protection of its territory by repelling the recent armed aggression. If they [the Azerbaijanis] ask us why Armenia decided that a particular territory is its territory, Armenia will be able to respond by saying that for the same reason why you decided that Eyvazli and Chayzami are not Armenia’s territories,” Pashinyan clarified.
