The Taliban have called on U.S. Congress to ease sanctions and unfreeze Afghanistan’s assets since the country is facing economic turbulence, Associated Press reports.
Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi says the frozen assets are causing harm to the population, starting from the healthcare sector and ending with education and other services. His statement comes a day after the World Food Programme warned that millions of people in Afghanistan are poverty-stricken.
