Today Meruzhan Harutyunyan, who was killed during the fighting that took place in Sisian on Nov. 16, was buried at Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan.

Born in Gyumri, contractual serviceman Meruzhan Harutyunyan, 30, was a veteran of the 44-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). He received an injury, but continued to fight until the end. He and his brother were contractual soldiers and lived in Yerevan. Meruzhan became a contractual serviceman about four years ago. He was married and had two children, including a 12-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son.

On Nov. 16, at around 1 p.m., the units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan attacked Armenian military posts in the eastern direction of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The adversary used artillery, armored vehicles and firearms of various calibers. Fighting took place for a few hours, and the Armenian side lost two military posts. After Russian mediation, ceasefire was established at 6:30 p.m.

The Ministry of Defense first reported one casualty (contractual serviceman Meruzhan Harutyunyan), and then it reported that there are 13 captured servicemen, communication is lost with 24 servicemen and their fate is unknown.

Today on Nov. 19 the Ministry of Defense reported that, based on the current data, the Armenian side has 6 casualties, including Senior Lieutenant Taron Sahakyan, Junior Sergeant Meruzhan Harutyunyan, Private Gurgen Sargsyan, Junior Sergeant Artur Martirosyan and Private Davit Amiryan. Another deceased serviceman has yet to be identified.

The intensive works continue through the mediation and with the participation of the Russian side for the return of the captives and detection of the missing servicemen.
