More than 150 km of barbed wire has been installed on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border, said Laurynas Kasciunas, Chair of the Committee on National Security and Defence of the Lithuanian parliament.

According to him, the Lithuanian-Belarusian border, which is about 680 km long, will be protected by a barrier in the fall of 2022 and will be equipped with video surveillance systems.

Lithuania has decided to build a 4-meter-high stationary barrier made of wire mesh along its border with Belarus, on which a pointed barbed wire is placed. And an additional 3-meter-high barbed wire is being installed in front of this barrier.

The cost of installing this barbed wire fence was €152 million. Lithuania hopes to receive respective support from the EU, but Brussels has said they do not fund the construction of the barricades.
