At least 12 people were killed and 13 injured in a stampede during a religious holiday in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Hindustan Times.

The incident took place on Saturday night in the vicinity of the Vaishno Devi tomb near the city of Katra. According to police, the cause of the stampede was a quarrel among the pilgrims.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the families of the victims will receive 200,000 rupees as compensation.
