A Christmas Eve liturgy is held at St Gayane Church in Etchmiadzin.

The liturgy is led by the Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II. Christmas liturgy is held twice a year, at Christmas and Easter.

This is the last day of Christmas fasting. Lighted candles symbolize the Star of Bethlehem. It is also symbolized by the stars that decorate the tops of the Christmas trees.

After the liturgy, the fasting ends on the morning of January 6. On this day, people wish each other a Merry Christmas.
