With the current pace of vaccination and uneven distribution of vaccines, over 100 countries will not be able to vaccinate 70% of their population by mid-2022, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a briefing on Thursday, RIA Novosti reported.

At the current rate of vaccine distribution, 109 states will not be able to vaccinate 70% of their population by early July 2022, he said.

According to him, first-generation vaccines may not help fight the virus, but they make a significant contribution to reducing hospitalizations. However, the use of numerous booster doses in some countries, while in others many have not yet received the first dose of vaccination, will not stop the spread of COVID-19, the head of WHO added.
