Poland's most influential politician, leader of Poland's ruling conservative Law and Justice Party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, has admitted that the country has bought powerful spyware from Israeli manufacturer NSO Group, the Associated Press reported.

However, he denies that spyware was used to harass his political opponents.

He said that the Pegasus software is currently being used by the secret services of many countries to fight crime and corruption.

The politician noted that Pegasus represents a real technological advance over earlier monitoring systems that did not allow services to track encrypted messages.

It would be bad if Polish services did not have such a tool, Kaczynski said in an interview with the weekly Sieci, excerpts from which the news portal wPolityce.pl published on Friday.
