The Criminal Court of Appeal of Armenia on Thursday denied the appeal filed against the arrest of former prisoner of war Serzhik Amirkhanyan. This was reported to Armenian News-NEWS.am by Ruben Melikyan, a human rights activist, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) former Human Rights Ombudsman, and co-founder of the “Legal Path” NGO of Armenia.

"In my perception, the judge himself did not agree with his decision. There is no justification—by any system of values—for showing such an attitude towards them [i.e., POWs]. At the moment, our priority is the same: to restore the freedom of people kept in custody," Melikyan said.

He added that the completion of the investigation of the criminal case against Amirkhanyan has been announced, and the body conducting the proceedings intends to send this case to court.
