The EU-mediated hotline set up in November 2021, which was intended to be used during the next possible escalation of tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan, is being used in full. Arman Yeghoyan, Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly of Armenia and an MP of the ruling Civil Contract Party, told reporters this on Thursday.

But, according to him, this hotline is used only in special cases when the tension is considerably escalating.

"It is conditioned by many factors—geopolitical and international processes. It is a quiet period after the last escalation that occurred on January 11. The tension has eased to some extent," the lawmaker said, adding that today the situation is quite manageable.

Yeghoyan, however, reminded that Armenia "is not Switzerland" and is not lucky in terms of its neighbors.

"Practically nothing has changed. The problems are almost as much as they have been. Have we never had tension at the border?" the ruling party asked rhetorically.

At the same time, Yeghoyan believes that the recent escalations of tension at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border are an obvious evidence of the restoration of the combat-readiness of the Armenian Armed Forces. According to the MP, the Armenian military is now, in fact, on the same level with the Azerbaijani army.

"You can see that we are basically on the same level, in terms of military," Arman Yeghoyan concluded.
