The talks on security guarantees have shown the seriousness of the confrontation on the world stage, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, RIA Novosti reports.

“They reflect a serious confrontation on the world stage, an attempt by the West to assert its dominance,” he said in an interview with Channel One on the Big Game program.

According to him, representatives of Washington and the NATO secretary general promised to respond in writing to Moscow's proposals on security guarantees.

He noted that the talks in Geneva and Brussels, where consultations between Russia and the United States and a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council were held, were businesslike.

"The position of the West is quite tough, arrogant somewhere, uncompromising, it was nevertheless stated calmly, in a business-like manner, which allows us to count on the prospect of understanding the talks held in Washington," added the head of Russian diplomacy. According to him, the Russian side was no less firm in stating its position, having the arguments that the West does not have.
