The Argentine authorities protested against the deployment of an air defense system by Britain on the disputed Malvinas (Falkland Islands), the South American republic's foreign ministry informed, TASS reported.

Argentina, said the ministry, "rejects in the strongest terms the new deployment of British military weapons in the Malvinas Islands."

According to the ministry, Britain is deploying the Sky Sabre air defense system on the islands.

The recent deployment is "a new and unjustified show of force and a deliberate departure" from the calls of the United Nations and other international organizations for a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute, added the ministry.

The Malvinas (Falkland Islands), located in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, has been the subject of a territorial dispute between Argentina and Britain for 200 years.
