Beijing has reported three new cases of COVID-19, officials said the virus is under control, AP reported.

All three cases registered in the last 24 hours concerned people in quarantine.

The current pandemic situation in the capital is generally under control and moving in the right direction, said Xu Hejian, a city government spokesman. Beijing is safe.

The Chinese capital is on high alert as it prepares to host the Winter Olympics starting on Friday.

Since January 15, Beijing has reported a total of 115 cases of COVID-19, including six cases of omicron. In response, the city conducted mass testing of millions of people and closed several blocks in different parts of the city, while avoiding a strict lockdown for the entire capital.
