Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced his readiness to resign and hand over his duties to the new leader, reports TASS.

The president Rodrigo Duterte says he is looking forward to the day of the handover to the successor, noting that he would meet with the new leader and then invite him for a private conversation. Duterte also mentioned that he had dreamed of finally calling himself the outgoing president.

However, he said he plans to leave Malacañang Palace (the official residence of the president of the Philippines) by March or April. The resident Duterte says he is packing his bags, some of them has already sent home.

On May 9, Filipinos will elect a president, a vice president and more than 300 deputies. According to the constitution, Duterte cannot be reelected as head of state.
