The administration of US President Joe Biden has approved a $100 million contract with Taiwan to strengthen the island's missile defense systems, Xinhua reported.

The State Department announced a design and maintenance agreement.

China called on the US to withdraw the deal and stop all military interaction with the island.

"Such acts seriously undermine China's sovereignty and security interests and gravely harm China-U.S. relations as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," said Zhao.

The support agreement is intended to help Taiwan maintain its existing air defense missiles and the US-made advanced Patriot missiles that Taiwan is acquiring.
