Hydrocarbons will be actively used for several decades, it is too early to give them up, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, opening a meeting of the Council on Science and Education, which takes place via videoconference, TASS reported.

“I have already said many times that it is too early to abandon hydrocarbons,” Putin pointed out, “but still we must understand where humanity is heading.”

According to the head of state, this is especially important for the ecological well-being and quality of life of Russians, which is a priority.

The Head of State emphasized that the reduction of the negative impact of the domestic industry, transport and other sectors on the planet's climate will be based on accurate, verified data. At the same time, in his opinion, it is necessary to ensure accelerated, modern development of the national economy.

"Of course, this is not an easy task. The most important condition for solving such a task is the further transition to low-carbon, green energy sources," he specified.
