Our country is moving, with steady steps, towards dictatorship. And the arrest of Judge Boris Bakhshiyan was the last "nail" on the "coffin" of Armenia’s judicial system and justice. Vahe Hakobyan, a member of the opposition "Armenia" Faction in the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, said this Thursday during the traditional press briefings in the NA.

Hakobyan added that against this backdrop, European organizations are silent.

"This willy-nilly forces us to draw some conclusions. Today the Armenian government and EU organizations have entered a stage called 'political trade.' And we are very interested in the 'price' of the [respective] silence of European organizations," the opposition MP said.

Lilit Galstyan, another lawmaker from the aforesaid faction, stated that Armenia lives in conditions of deepening repression, one-man rule, and entrenched authoritarian regime. According to her, in such conditions it is unnecessary to talk about the process of separation of human rights and branches of power in Armenia.

"We see all this in the National Assembly as well. Most of the bills that appear in the National Assembly aim to create an environment that is governed from one point and pleases the political palate," Galstyan added.
