YEREVAN. – Sanahin monastery was under the control of Armenian Apostolic Church from 1998 but the bureaucratic details were not carried out until 2011, Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan told before the government session started on Thursday.   

According to media, All Armenian Catholicos Karekin II had stated that Echmiadzin Holy See has nothing to do with Armenian churches that are in mountains.

Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan asked Minister of Culture to provide explanations on this issue. According to Hasmik Poghosyan, Sanahin is included in UNESCO World Heritage List and any intervention should be conducted by the international expertise. Specialists were invited from Berlin. They made certain measurements and registered the main issues regarding its reconstruction. The full reconstruction works will start in 2012 and will require AMD 90 million.
