A hawk flew into the Westchester Square East Tremont Avenue underground station in the Bronx, ABC7 TV channel reported.

It chased a pigeon or smaller bird, but once inside, it could not get out and spent several days in the lobby.

A bird of prey – Cooper’s hawk – sat motionless on a pipe, tired of flying aimlessly for several days, which was watched by station worker Paul Flores. He repeatedly asked for help to catch the hawk, and finally found a volunteer – a former firefighter named Bobby Horvath. He used a big net to catch the bird.

“It was exhausted and even broke, but I was able to catch it on the fly,” Horvath said. The bird was examined by a veterinarian, then he was helped to recover and released into the wild in one of the parks.

The volunteer considers the hawk lucky because 50% of rescued birds are never integrated back into the wild due to injuries that are too severe.
