Australia intends to include Hamas in the list of terrorist organizations.

Home Secretary Karen Andrews said the government has absolutely zero tolerance for violence, AAP reports.

The views of Hamas and the violent extremist groups listed today are deeply disturbing and there is no place in Australia for their hateful ideologies, Andrews said.

She said she wrote to her state and territory colleagues to consult on the inclusion of all of Hamas on the list.

The minister said that Attorney General Michaelia Cash will work to ensure that the rights of people who do not support terrorist organizations are protected. This came after concerns that ordinary Palestinians might end up on the list.
