The Panama-flagged Felicity Ace caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean.

It has 2,500 cars on board, including about 1,100 Porsches and an unspecified number of Volkswagens. The ship's 22 crew members were evacuated by the Portuguese Navy, but the fate of the vehicles remains unknown.

While it is too early to tell what has happened and what the next steps are, we – along with our colleagues at Porsche AG – are supporting our dealer customers to the best of our ability in finding solutions, Porsche spokesman told Autoblog.

The spokesman confirmed that Porsche models make up approximately 1,100 of the 2,500 vehicles expected to be on board.
