Members of a public organization specializing in the search for missing people found 50 bags of human remains in the state of Jalisco in western Mexico, TASS reported citing local TV.

The remains were found during the inspection of five abandoned houses in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. According to preliminary data, the remains of about 30 people were found in the bags. It is assumed that they were killed by members of criminal gangs.

Mexican authorities report that, as of January 2020, the number of missing citizens in the country exceeded 61,000. More than 33,000 people were victims of violent crime in Mexico in 2021.
