Roskomnadzor has decided to block the social network Facebook in response to the blocking of Russian media accounts, the agency said, Inferfax reported.

"On 4 March, 2022, a decision was made to block access to Facebook (owned by Meta Platforms, Inc.) in Russia," the agency said in a statement.

There have been 26 cases of discrimination against Russian media and information resources by Facebook since October 2020.

"In recent days, the social network has restricted access to the accounts of TV channel Zvezda, news agency RIA Novosti, Sputnik, Russia Today, information resources Lenta.ru and Gazeta.ru," the agency specified.

The Roskomnadzor reported that such restrictions are prohibited by Federal Law "On measures to influence persons involved in violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms, rights and freedoms of citizens of Russia", adopted, among other things, "to prevent violations of key principles of free information distribution and unimpeded access of Russian users to Russian media on foreign Internet platforms".
