According to him, good relations with Turkey are important for Israel and the entire Middle East, especially due to the fact that the world order has been shaken because of the Ukrainian crisis.

The Duke added that his visit, coordinated with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, could help advance his vision of Jews, Muslims and Christians living in peace" in the region. Israeli flags were raised in the Turkish capital in anticipation of the Duke's arrival.

Herzog and Erdogan are expected to discuss expanding Israeli-Turkish relations. The Duke also plans to travel to Istanbul to meet with the Jewish community.
