Roskomnadzor will restrict access to the social network Instagram (owned by Meta Platforms, Inc.) at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, Interfax reported.

The agency explained that the network was spreading publications calling for violent acts against citizens of Russia, including military personnel.

The Russian authorities recall that on 11 March, Meta spokesman Andy Stone said that the company was temporarily lifting the ban on calls for violence against the Russian military for Facebook and Instagram users in a number of countries.

Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has since asked the Roskomnadzor to restrict access to Instagram. Facebook has been blocked in the country since 4 March for censorship of Russian media.

The Prosecutor General's Office also asked the court to declare Meta Platforms Inc. an extremist organization and ban its activities in Russia. The IC opened a criminal case against the company's employees for calling for extremism and promoting terrorism.
