The decision of the President of the Russian Federation to carry out a special military operation aimed at the protection of the people of Donbas and the security of our country is based on an in-depth analysis of historical patterns and a very accurate, realistic assessment of the situation in the world. This was announced by the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia, Sergey Naryshkin, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Naryshkin, Russia could not have acted otherwise, as delaying toward Ukraine's "anti-Russian corrupt oligarchic regime" would have led to a great tragedy.
