NATO will not risk escalating the war in Ukraine through military intervention, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a joint press conference in Berlin with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
Germany is sending financial and humanitarian aid as well as military goods to Ukraine, but Berlin has repeatedly said it will not send fighter jets to help Ukrainian forces.
Scholz said that Putin brought terrible suffering and death to the people of Ukraine and expressed support to Ukraine.
