President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said he had no plans to deploy nuclear weapons in the country, expressing hope that the situation would not deteriorate enough to do so.

"I have no plans to deploy nuclear weapons here, to produce nuclear weapons, to create and use these nuclear weapons against anyone. That has never been in the plans of the Belarusian leadership," Lukashenko said in an interview to the Japanese TV channel TBS.

Answering the question, whether Belarus still would have to deploy nuclear weapons in case of deteriorating situation, Lukashenko said he hoped that the situation would not require it.
