Saudi Arabia has said it will not bear any responsibility" for the shortage of world oil reserves after attacks by Houthi rebels that affected production, reports AP.
The unusually blunt warning marked a departure from the oil giant's usually cautious pronouncements, as Saudi officials remain aware that even their most minor comments could sway oil prices and shake global markets.
The announcement came as the kingdom continues to keep pace with OPEC and other oil-producing countries under an agreement to cap production growth, and as energy prices soar amid the Ukraine crisis.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry, which said that the international community must take responsibility for providing energy supply to stand against the Houthis.
The repeated attacks by the Houthis will affect the kingdom's production capacity and ability to meet its obligations, threatening the security and stability of energy supplies to world markets, the statement said.
Benchmark Brent oil was worth more than $112 a barrel at auction on Monday.
