New Zealand will provide Ukraine with non-lethal military assistance, CNN reported.

New Zealand will provide another $5 million ($3.4 million) in non-lethal military assistance to support Ukraine and will provide Ukraine with a number of surplus defense equipment upon request, the government said in a statement.

The aid includes 1,066 body armor, 473 helmets and 571 camouflage vests and slings.

This is the first time that New Zealand has provided direct funding to an outside organization for non-lethal military assistance of this nature and highlights the importance of not taking any action that has an adverse effect on national sovereignty, said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The New Zealand Defense Force is currently working urgently on the details of how this much-needed equipment will be promptly delivered to Ukraine, said Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta.
