The authorities of Saudi Arabia, which occupies a key position in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the OPEC + agreement, urged not to confuse international politics and the situation around Ukraine with agreements to reduce oil production and attempts to stabilize the global energy market, CNBC reported.

According to Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the very existence of OPEC depends on the ability to separate its goals of stabilizing world oil prices from other geopolitical events, even if they are widely discussed and condemned by the international community.

Also, a member of the royal family of Saudi Arabia noted that Riyadh can use other tools and platforms to express its position on the Russian special operation in Ukraine. According to him, OPEC and OPEC+ have repeatedly cooperated with countries involved in conflicts, such as Iraq and Iran.

The position of Abdulaziz bin Salman was supported by the Minister of Energy of the United Arab Emirates Suhail al-Mazrouei, who called the stabilization of the world oil market his only goals and mission.

CNBC notes that at the moment OPEC remains one of the few international organizations that have not severed ties with Russia after the start of a special operation in Ukraine.
