India will continue to buy oil from Russia, as its people need oil at a discount after the surge in world prices, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, News18 reported.

"India's national interest, energy concerns should come first. We have already started buying Russian oil. If we are being offered lower prices, why don't we make a decision that benefits the people," she said.

She added that India must reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. "Climate change is an issue that we have to be aware of, and it's in people's best interest that we switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, facing the challenges of producing gas as a substitute fuel as supplies are depleted and prices are rising."
