Armenia attaches great importance to the consistent development of relations with Italy, based on a rich history and contacts, and within the framework of an agreement on enhanced and comprehensive cooperation with the EU, common cultural and democratic values, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan following a meeting with his Italian counterpart Luigi di Maio on April 3 in Yerevan.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the political dialogue and the positive dynamics of high-level visits. In his words, the sides noted the growing turnover and the volume of Italian investments in Armenia from year to year, assuring that the parties are interested in developing economic cooperation. Nevertheless, there is a colossal untapped potential, for which the work of the intergovernmental commission is important.

The minister recalled that the last time the commission met was in 2017. “I think we can take steps in this direction,” Mirzoyan added.

The parties touched upon the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda within the framework of the Eastern Partnership initiative. The minister also welcomed the opening of chairs for Armenian Studies in Italian universities.
