However, Khan's fate is still unclear. The opposition vowed to challenge the decision to block the vote, while Khan advised the country's president to dissolve parliament and urged the nation to prepare for new elections.

The opposition accuses Khan of failing to revive the economy and fight corruption.

Khan had earlier accused the US of supporting attempts to remove him from the post of prime minister.
