The USA will ask the UN General Assembly to expel Russia from the Human Rights Council, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield after Ukraine accused Russia of killing dozens of civilians in the town of Bucha, Reuters reported.

A two-thirds vote of the 193-member GA in New York could remove a state from the council for persistently committing gross and systematic human rights violations during its membership.

On Sunday, photos emerged from the Ukrainian city of Bucha, which depicted the bodies of people lying in the streets. The footage was published by advisor to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office Mykhailo Podoliak, Reuters and AFP, among others.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that all the photos and videos published by the Kiev regime about the alleged crimes of the Russian Armed Forces in Bucha were a provocation. The ministry noted that the Russian military left the city on 30 March, while the evidence of crimes in Bucha appeared only on the fourth day after their departure, when officers and representatives of Ukrainian television arrived in the city.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that the situation in Bucha was a staging, which Ukraine and the West are hyping up on all channels and social networks. "The other day another fake attack was carried out in the city of Bucha in the Kiev region after Russian servicemen left there in accordance with the plans and agreements reached. A few days later, attack was staged there, which is being fomented through all channels and social networks by Ukrainian representatives and their Western patrons," the head of the Russian diplomatic mission said. According to him, Moscow considers the situation in Bucha as a provocation threatening international peace and security and will demand that the United Kingdom, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council, hold a meeting on the issue.
