Lithuania expels Russian ambassdor and returns its ambassador to Russia to Lithuania

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that the government is expelling Russian Ambassador Alexei Isakov "in response to Russia's war against Ukraine," the Lithuanian National Radio and Television LRT reported.

At the same time, it was announced that the Lithuanian Ambassador to Russia Tautvydas Bajarunas will return to Lithuania in the near future. The minister said that Lithuania had informed its partners in the EU and NATO about this decision and urged them to do the same.

Landsbergis also said that the government has decided to close the Russian consulate general in Klaipeda.

"Given the overall unconstructive role of the Russian diplomatic service in the aggression against Ukraine, the Lithuanian government is closing the consulate general in Klaipeda," the Lithuanian foreign minister said.
