Japan's largest automaker Toyota Motor will cut car production at its plants around the world to 700,000, or 10% from the originally planned level, in May this year, the Nikkei newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The production of cars at enterprises inside Japan will decrease slightly - by about 200 thousand units. At the same time, only 500,000 cars should roll off the assembly lines at Toyota's foreign plants in May, which is 100,000 less than expected.

The reason for this trend, as the newspaper notes, was the disruption of supply chains after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, as well as the re-imposition of restrictions against the spread of coronavirus in some countries, including China.

In 2021, Toyota sold 10,495,548 vehicles, the highest number in the world. At the same time, the production of new cars increased by 9.4% compared to 2020 and reached 10,076,246.
