A toxic chlorine leak occurred on Monday at a DOW chemical plant near Plaquemine, Iberville, Louisiana, USA. This was reported by the state police.

Louisiana Emergency Response Units are working on a chlorine leak at a DOW chemical plant in Iberville County, the police tweeted.

Local residents are ordered to take shelter in their houses, close all windows and turn off air conditioners to avoid poisoning. The highway adjacent to the plant is blocked.

According to the Fox News channel, the leak of the toxic substance was preceded by a fire, which is currently extinguished, but the leak itself has not yet been eliminated.
