The United Arab Emirates has summoned the Israeli ambassador to protest clashes at the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, the Gulf state's foreign ministry said, Reuters reported.

Reem bint Ebrahim Al-Hashimi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, noted the need to immediately stop these events (and) ensure the full protection of the faithful.

She also called for respect for the right of the Palestinians to practice their religious rites and stop any practice that violates the integrity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In addition, she expressed concern about the escalation of tensions that threaten stability and security in the region.”

At least 152 Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli police inside the mosque on Friday.
